Antonia qualified as an osteopath from the British School of Osteopathy (now known as University College of Osteopathy) in 2012. Prior to that she worked as a therapist in Iceland within corporations and privately.
Her interest in health and well-being has been present from a very young age where she embarked on a journey studying Reflexology and qualified from a 3 year full-time Massage Program in Iceland.
Her interest in health grew even further after a car accident at 18 years of age when she suffered badly from a neck injury and none of the available treatment approaches helped. Looking for resources and different treatment modalities she found Osteopathy and fell in love with the philosophy behind it. Looking at the patient as a whole is at the heart of Antonia's practice
Osteopathy is a hands on therapy with the whole person in mind. It focuses on understanding the patient, their lifestyle and environment rather than just treating symptoms. It works with the structure and function of the body and based on the concept that these components are inseparable and connected (e.g. a foot problem can compromise your gait and therefore result in Lower back pain).
A typical consultation consists of assessing, treating and preventing a broad range of health problems. The treatment aims to reduce pain and enable the body to function optimally.
Techniques used vary from stretching, movement/articulation, deep tissue massage, fascial release and manipulation of muscles and joints to improve function, alleviate pain and aid recovery. Palpation skills are paramount to reach effective results within Osteopathic Practise and Osteopaths are professionals regulated by the General Osteopathic Council and undergo an intensive 4 years long training and 1000 + clinical hours to achieve this.
Osteopathy was the first ‘Complementary’ therapy to have received statutory regulation by Parliament and has been recognised by the medical profession for a number of years. It is covered by most medical insurance schemes.
Positive Psychology is the scientific study of strengths that allow and empower individuals and communities to thrive. It is an applied science aiming to improve quality of life bringing out the best in the person finding ways to function optimally. Positive psychology uses evidence based tools focusing on strength, resilience, flourishing, love, meaning and wellbeing. Ultimately it looks at what works and how to use strengths to build on that.
“Curing the negatives does not produce the positives.”

“Depression is now ten times as prevalent as it was in 1960, and it strikes at a much younger age. The mean age of a person’s first episode of depression forty years ago was 29.5, while today it is 14.5 years. This is a paradox, since every objective indicator of well-being—purchasing power, amount of education, availability of music, and nutrition—has been going north, while every indicator of subjective well-being has been going south. How is this epidemic to be explained?”
